1. What is NHACDL?
The New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is the only statewide, voluntary professional association in New Hampshire dedicated solely to criminal defense attorneys. It was established in 1988 and includes both private practitioners and public defenders actively working in state and federal courts throughout New Hampshire.

The organization aims to:
Ensure, safeguard, and promote effective legal representation in criminal cases;
Support the criminal defense bar;
Champion fair and transparent justice systems in New Hampshire
3. Who can join NHACDL and what are the membership types?
Membership is open exclusively to criminal defense attorneys. Membership categories and current dues are as follows:
First-Year Public Defender — free
Public Defender — $75/year
Retired Attorney — $75/year
Law Student — $25/year
Private Attorney (under 10 years) — $150/year
Private Attorney (10+ years) — $215/year
4. What are the benefits of membership?
Members receive:
Access to a 250‑member dedicated listserv and email discussion group;
Complimentary or discounted CLE workshops, including the annual CLE's;
Networking across the defense community;
Participation in legislative advocacy and policy initiatives;
Access to a motions bank, expert lists, and other exclusive resources;
The ability to request NHACDL amicus involvement in appellate cases of general interest;

5. Where and how does NHACDL operate?
NHACDL advocates in Concord during legislative sessions, monitors criminal justice-related bills, and provides support across all counties in New Hampshire—including Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire, Coos, Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford, and Sullivan counties.
