In America, there are no kings.  In place of a monarch stands the rule of law.  At that heart of American law is a commitment to the principles enshrined in the Fourteenth Amendment: Due Process and Equal Justice Under Law.

At this critical moment, the rule of law is under attack.  Members of the New Hampshire bar swear an oath to uphold the state and federal constitutions.  As lawyers, each of us is duty-bound to defend the rule of law with all the skill and fidelity our profession demands.

To that end, the New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers denounces recent attacks on judicial independence, calls to suspend habeas corpus and flirtations with instituting martial law.  NHACDL affirms that a free society can only function through adherence to our most cherished fundamental principles: due process and equal justice under law.

No one is above the law.  Everyone deserves their day in court.  In these contentious times, the New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers will continue to fight for these values.  We call on all members of the bar and citizens of good conscious to join us.
